Very Important Creatives
The team from redhotblue, including myself – B2, recently attended the 2012 Brisbane Semi Permanent conference. The event covers all design aspects from graphic design, film, fine art, illustration, web design, interaction design, photography, visual effects, animation, graffiti, motion graphics, stop motion, architecture and much more.
With a history of 29 events in 9 cities, it has quickly become the world’s leading design conference. Not only did we attend, but were lucky enough to attend as VIP’s. Just as Snoop Dogg quickly gets ushered to the front of the line to some swanky nightclub, so did we.
We had an up close and personal experience with some of the most talented artists, illustrators and advertising geniuses the creative industry has to offer. A personal favourite of mine was Scott Nowell, one member of the genius that is The Monkeys. Responsible for some of the most successful and cutting edge advertising campaigns and TV shows in Australia (including clients like The Opera House, Ice Break and Ikea), they have quickly become Australian icons. Their unique and innovative way of connecting with their audience is what makes them the leaders in their field. It is safe to say I was slightly star struck, not about to steal personal objects from their trailers – but in awe.
Other speakers worth mentioning were Andrew Quilty, a young photographer with an edgy view on popular culture, politics, surfing and travel. And not to mention the legendary Beastman, who’s distinctive, tribal characters have quickly become the face of modern art in Australia and around the world.
