A week away…

With the introduction of a public holiday in October, Rebecca, Nene [redhotblue part time staffer] and I [Bonnie] seized the perfect opportunity to jump on a plane and head to Singapore for a mini vacation. Armed with cash passports, travel guides and cameras, we hit the streets to take in the city’s culture, fashion and of course food! We made a pact to drink champagne at least once a day, remember highlights from each day, and of course try something new. While we did get to know Orchard Road quite well [including some hidden passageways known only to the cleaners] we did make it to Sentosa Island, Gardens by the Bay, Little India and Chinatown as well. Singapore is a beautiful city, with such a mix of friendly people that we have made definite plans to return.

From a marketing point of view, it was hard not to notice the amount of advertising everywhere – from huge TV screens with ads running all day and night to tourist discount promotions. There is so much competition that shopping centres, stores and even restaurants have to get creative with how they attract you. One example that we found quite “attractive” was the greeter at Abercrombie & Fitch store. A lovely young girl waited with her Polaroid camera as you walked in the front door to take your photo with a handsome young man, the scent of their signature cologne wafted throughout the store and settled on all the clothing so you felt compelled to buy something for yourself or your partner. Needless to say, we walked away with three photos and numerous bags – well done!
