New Google ranking to penalise websites that aren’t mobile-friendly
As of April 21 2015, businesses without a mobile-friendly website will see their ranking in Google drop.
Director of Redhotblue Creative Agency, Jody Euler, said Google would change their methods to adapt with the change of how users access the Internet.
“In an attempt to make it easier for users to find mobile-friendly websites they will penalise those who don’t have one by ranking them lower, impacting search results,” she said.
“It has always been important to have a mobile-friendly website however, with these new changes it is now critical for businesses to make their websites more friendly to users searching on their smart phones.”
To fully capitalise on the Google ranking changes, businesses are urged to look into ensuring they have a responsive website.
“A fully responsive website is the way to go, which means your website will automatically change to suit the sizing of the platform you are viewing on e.g laptop, mobile or tablet,” she said.
“You do also have the option of a one page mobile version, which means a simplified, one page website built specifically for mobile phone viewing only.
“In addition to this you can convert your entire website to a mobile version, which will suffice. However, with website trends changing so dramatically you will be constantly updating and maintaining a mobile version website, in the end costing you time and money.
“Responsive websites are the way of the future and compared to mobile version websites they are less work and more cost effective in the long run.”
With more users relying on their phones to search the internet, businesses need to get serious about ranking high in Google.
“The first three results in a Google search get 90% of clicks with the number one result attracting 53% of all clicks.
“If your businesses website is not ranking high enough you won’t get that traffic which means you’re missing out on huge business opportunities.”
